Today's Carlos Pena Pic Of The Day

This is Carlos and his lovely wife, Pamela. I'm not quite sure what's up with the purple outfits and the man scarf.......

Cubs-Cards weekend.........yay?

I'm positively giddy with excitement that Carlos Pena is in my city this weekend. I mean, the sexy factor for STL just went up exponentially. Hellllooooo! That's where the excitement ends, unfortunately. I mean, let's face it, the Cubs are terrible, they just got swept by the 1st place Brewers and will probably get swept by the Cards this weekend. The one game I'd really, REALLY like them to win is tonight.....for Matt Garza. Dude has been PITCHING HIS ASS OFF, and has nothing but losses to show for it...because his team sucks. If I was him, I'd have bitch slapped each and every one of them....but Matt seems like too nice of a guy for that. He's very team oriented, which is cool, but dude, give the guy a win already!

My girl Robin and I decided to look into tickets for one of the games. Remember in years past a Cards-Cubs series would sell out in minutes? Those days are long gone-there are still 1,500+ tickets remaining....for all three games. That makes me sad. This rivalry isn't all that much fun anymore. It would be if, say both teams were competitive. One is, one isn't. Bet you can't guess who's who. Anyhoo....we are going to the Sunday night game for.......$20. That's it. Twenty bucks buys you a Cards-Cubs ticket? Seriously? That is sad. But I will gladly be an a-hole and wear my new Starlin Castro shirt with pride. Speaking of a-holes, I'm also wearing another Cubs shirt today....at work. It's my silent protest of Bring Your Child To Work Day. Yes, they are doing that again and again I will be playing the role of Cranky Old Lady. Kids are cute and all but they don't belong at work. Just sayin. Actually, it's really not the kids that bother me, it's the fact that there are several of my colleagues volunteering to help out....which means they aren't actually working.....which means the rest of us are left to pick up the slack. That pisses me off. Especially since we're slammed today. So....I'll probably be a biatch today.

So, uh, Go Cubs.

Sayanara Fuk-u-dome

K Fuke has been traded to the Indians for two as yet un-named minor leaguers. This is win/win folks. Kosuke was going to be a free agent at the end of the season and was not in the Cubs future plans, so they may as well get something for him, right? Now he gets to go to a team that has a chance of going to the playoffs (currently only two games behind Detroit). I wish him the best.

I hear that super hottie (but not all that good of a baseball player...) Tyler Colvin is coming up from AAA and will be the full time right fielder. Um.....he's hot and all, but, uh, is that the best decision? What am I saying? The Cubs don't make good decisions, so, really, this makes perfect sense.

As of 9:49am CST on 7/28/11, Carlos Pena is still a Cub. Thank you baby Haysus.

The return of The Carlos Pena Pic Of The Day

Yes, I know this is a pic from when he was on the Rays, but um, hello. You can write your own caption......

Hodgepodge

Hiya!

So much random stuff to discuss today. Let's get down to it.

First and foremost, I must announce that my baby brother is moving to St. Louis!!!!!!!! Ok, well, the metro area, but definitely closer than Salem. That means all my siblings will be nearby. KD likey. Timbo got a job with the Warrenton School District, I'm sooooo excited to have him here. And.....he'll be moving just in time for......the birth of our nephew.

Less than THREE weeks until my little nephew arrives via scheduled c-section. Sure, he could come on his own, but the doc doesn't think he will. Even so, three weeks is not a long time! I know my sis is ready (I'm sure it's miserable being 9 months pregnant in the middle of a St. Louis summer. Today's temp? An even 100 degrees. Yuck.). We are also very much ready to meet this little guy. :)  I must say, my heart melted a bit yesterday when my sister informed me that Kendall has been asking for "my Kerri". Um.......LOVE. She's "my" Kendall, so that works out well. LOVE that kid. She will always be my special little buddy.  :)

Let's talk baseball, because you know that's my other favorite subject. I talked to a Brewers fan this morning. I'd spoken to her yesterday, and I think she didn't know I was a Cubs fan....until yesterday. The Cubs just happen to be playing the Brewers right now. We talked some smack yesterday even though I knew full well the Brewers would win....and they did. So, we chatted today and I ranted about Ryan Braun getting not one but TWO broken bat hits. Grrrrr. I also said I wondered if the pinstripes on the Cubs uniforms would make Prince Fielder look slimmer. She laughed at that. We had a good 'ol chat about it. I used to really hate the Brewers. Now I think the only NL Central team I hate is the Reds. They really don't have one likeable player. Sure, Ryan Braun is a mega douchebag, but he's not a hateful a-hole like, say, Joey Votto.

I fully anticipate the Cubs getting swept just in time for.....their weekend series here in St. Louis. Awesome. Still plenty of tickets available folks. Just sayin. I may try to go to Busch this weekend, jury is still out on that.

I'm melting.........

Folks, it's hot up in here. I've been in Chicago for about 24 hours now and I'm fairly certain I've sweated off at least a dress size. And today I am sporting a sexy sunburn....right across my forehead. It's a good look.
Let's discuss yesterday's Cubs game, shall we? I got there nice and early since that's what ya gotta do when you've got tix in the bleachers. Luckily for me, some of the people I was meeting up with were already there and had saved me a spot...in the front row in right center. Love. We were so close to Marlon Byrd in center field that he kept turning around laughing every time we yelled out at him. Awesome guy.

The game itself was not awesome....and was kinda like watching a Little League team play a real team. Bet you can't guess who the Little League team was. Lets just say it was several innings before the Cubs even got a hit. I think the final was 9-1 Phillies, but I only made it to the 7th inning....that's when the heat finally got to me. Eric and I both started feeling lightheaded and nauseated-despite at least five bottles of water and repeated trips to the "misters". I think with the heat index it hit 107 yesterday. I didn't even eat my $1 hot dog. It was too hot to eat. Blah.  I was even too hot to sexually harrass Carlos Pena. Wow.

Despite the heat and hot mess of a baseball game, I still had fun. When we got back to Eric's we ordered some pizza and later took his daughter and her friend out for some shaved ice....and then we watched the fireworks over Navy Pier. Good ending to the day.

Today thus far, I've ventured out for some breakfast and caffeine...now just chillin with the dogs and waiting for Eric to get home from work.  I love not having anything to do. Besides, I need to recover from yesterday-my ass hurts from sitting on those scorching hot bleacher seats, my forehead is sunburnt and I'm nusing the wound to my leg I suffered yesterday.....from the escalator attack. Yes, yours truly managed to injure herself on the escalator at the airport. I'm a mess.

I'm Wrigley bound tomorrow!

WOOOOOOOOO! Yours truly is heading to Chicago in the morning! Holla! My friend Eric has been gracious enough to let me crash on his couch for a couple of days. Game time is 1:20pm baby! This will be my first time sitting in the bleachers, I can't wait. Yes, I know there is a "heat wave" in Chicago right now---whatevs. Come to St. Louis, land of the 1,000% humidity. I'm sure I can handle 92 degrees. I promise I'll drink plenty of water. And.....it's $1 hot dog day for the bleacher bums tomorrow. SCORE!

See y'all on the flip side, I'll be home on Saturday!

Congrats on home run #250, Carlos Pena!

CHICAGO -- Carlos Pena shivered through April and didn't hit his first home run until May 3 in Los Angeles. On Monday, he connected on home run No. 20 of the season and No. 250 of his career in the Cubs' 6-1 win over the Phillies.

"I'm just extremely grateful God has given me the opportunity to hit one home run in the Major Leagues, let alone 250," Pena said. "That's something I don't take for granted."
Pena's first career homer came on Sept. 19, 2001, in the fourth inning off Oakland's Gil Heredia. He hit his second in the same game in the eighth. That must have seemed much easier than it did in the first month of the season this year.

"April was difficult, no doubt about it," said Pena, who batted .159 in April with one extra base hit. "It was extremely cold and the wind was usually blowing in against hitters.

"It was tough mentally, but I had my teammates behind me and always encouraging me," he said. "You can't do it alone. It gets tough. When you have a good support system and good guys around you, it makes things a little easier."

This is Pena's sixth 20-homer season, and he reached the milestone on a 90-plus-degree night, which was much more hitter friendly.

"When you get a night like this, it's pretty conducive [to home runs]," Cubs manager Mike Quade said. "If you get it elevated, it's going to go."

And it did for the 250th time for Pena.

Congrats hot stuff!

It's the end of an era....11 years in the making

So, most of y'all know I work two jobs. Mean managed care lady by day, mean crisis hotline worker by night. Well....tonight is my last night at the part-time job. It's weird that I feel nothing but......relief. I'm so ready. My sis says that's a sign that I've made the right decision.

I realize I should probably be sad-I mean, I have worked there nearly 11 years (started in Nov of 2000). That's a long freakin time and a LOT of crazy ass crisis calls. I was full time for 6 years and the last 5 part time. Earlier in the spring I cut back on my hours, clearly inching my way toward the door. Tonight, I will go out that door and not come back. It hit me a few months ago. I was sitting there in the call center and suddenly had this feeling that I no longer belong there. It was very strange...yet peaceful. Will I miss the extra cash? Sure, but working 8 hours a MONTH was hardly making much of a difference. I think I will be ok. It'll be nice to have my sanity back. Well....most of it.

The person I will miss the most is my boss Bart. He hired me, a 24 year old kid fresh out of grad school, completely clueless about the world. We've had an up and down relationship (he's one of the few people that calls me on my crap and I know he's right), mostly up. He's the greatest clinician I know. And a really, really good supervisor. And he writes damn good letters of recommendation. He's made me the clinician I am today. I wouldn't have grown as a person or as a counselor without him. True statement.

I made promises of keeping in touch, but you know how that goes. Time goes by and people move on. But....I will have (mostly) fond memories of my time at the crisis line, but I sure won't miss taking those calls.

True Blood

I realize all most posts lately have been about baseball and, in particular, Carlos Pena. I thought I'd write today about one of my other obsessions-True Blood.

I blame R-Diddy for this. I'd never seen the show since I'm not cool enough to have HBO, however, a few months ago, I borrowed R-Diddy's Seasons 1 and 2. I was immediately hooked. Dammit. Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, fairies and hillbillies? Sign me up!

And, oh em gee, how hot is Eric? And Alcide? My goodness.

I've now seen all the episodes, including this season. I now go each week dying to see the latest episode. It's become a sickness. I need me some V!

What is Matt Garza smoking?

Today's Carlos Pena Pic of the Day is............

This is one Dominican sandwich I'd like to be in the middle of.

NL wins the All-Star Game for the 2nd year in a row!

Maybe a Cubs uni will be more slimming?

The Cubs future first baseman was on a roll last night. I'm talking about Prince Fielder, of course. His 3-run homer was all the NL team needed (as proof, he snagged this year's ASG MVP). I'm not gonna lie-the NL dominated the AL. The pitching was superb, the defense pretty damn good.....other than our precious Starlin's error that, in reality, was Joey Votto's fault anyway (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

Speaking of Starlin Castro, how adorable is he. I love that this 21 year old kid made the All-Star team to begin with, but I also love how excited he was to be there. So.Stinkin.Cute. Star came in late in the game as a pinch runner for Tulo, who he later replaced at shortstop. Star managed to steal not one but TWO bases, but later got thrown out at home. No worries. He made two good plays on defense....and then there was that itty bitty error. Ooops. Whatever, us Cubs fans know that's his one weakness. It's a little perplexing, actually-he makes AMAZING plays out there at shortstop to the point where you're thinking "how in the hell did he do that?", yet on the most routine of plays, he gets an error. I'm gonna chalk it up to growing pains.

Even with the error, I was so proud that this kid is on MY team. I think we're all witnessing someone special, would be pretty cool to talk about him 50 years from now and be able to say I've been watching him since his rookie year. The Cubs may suck, but this kid is gonna be a superstar. Here's a nice article about him:

2011 Home Run Derby

Ok, so who watched the Home Run Derby last night?

I watched the entire thing. I find it fun. This year, they selected an AL captain (Big Papi) and an NL captain (Cubs future first baseman, Prince Fielder) who then selected 3 guys from their respective leagues to take part in the derby. Once I saw the choices, I was certain an AL guy would win. And turns out, I was right.

The AL team consisted of Big Papi, Adrian Gonzalez, Robinson Cano and Jose Bautista. The NL team consisted of Fielder, Matt Holliday (looking delicious, I might add), Matt Kemp (also looking delicious) and Rickie Weeks. Wait...WTH? Rickie Weeks? Seriously Prince? I realize he's your homie or whatever but, seriously?

Anyhoo, the top four that made it to the 2nd round were A-Gon, Big Papi, Cano and the lone NL'er left, Fielder.

The final round came down to A-Gon and Cano. Breaking a Home Run Derby record, Cano won it with 12 homers in the final round. His dad was the one pitching to him (is that an unfair advantage?) and let me just say, when he and his dad were hugging and his dad was saying what I think was "one more" in Spanish and then Cano said "I love you dad", my heart just melted. Sure, he's a dirty Yankee, but that moment was the sweetest thing ever. I heart sappy.

So, congrats to Robinson Cano. I'll go back to hating you and your team on Thursday.

Tonight is the All-Star Game. SO excited. Can't wait to see lil Starlin Castro! :)

Carlos Pena Pic Of The Day-All Star Break version

No, Carlos is not at the All-Star Game, so, since we can't see his hot Dominican ass until Thursday, I present to you the following:
He looks naughty in this pic...don't you agree?

Bonus pic of the day:

This pic cracks me up for so many reasons. 1. Both Rami and Marm are wearing sunglasses indoors. 2. WTH is up with Marm's shirt? 3. Does Marm have enough bling on? 4. Rami does not look like a professional baseball player when not in uniform. 5. That mohawk is ridiculous. 6. I think Marm may moonlight as a pimp in the off season.

Today's Carlos Pena Pic Of The Day-ladies, I think we deserve this:

Epic comeback? The Cubs?

I turned on last night's Cubs game solely to kill time until the Big Brother premiere came on at 8. Matt Garza, coming off an amazing performance his last start looked good until the 3rd inning....and then all hell broke loose. If the Nats were actually a good team, they would have scored more than the 7 runs they put up that inning. It seriously should have been 20-0. The Nats later tacked on another run and it was 8-0 Nats when I turned the channel to watch Big Brother. So....imagine my surprise when I checked Facebook during a commercial break and saw that the score was 8-6? WTH? Blake "I'm from Sikeston where they throw rolls at you" DeWitt with a monster homerun? What? It really happened. Then, during another commercial break, I turned it to the Cubs game just in time to see Mr. Sexy Ass, Carlos Pena belt a two-run homer to tie the game. Did y'all see that swing? It was a big F U to the Nats, that's what that was. HOT. Later the Cubs actually end up TAKING THE LEAD 9-8 before giving it up yet again (I don't remember how, the details are fuzzy), but, BUT, in the 9th, lil Darwin Barney hits a double to score the 10th and winning run. Cubs win 10-9. Epic awesomeness. I do want to note this-Carlos Marmol has sucked ever since he cut that stupid mohawk into his hair. Get rid of it. Pronto. Mucho pronto. Gracias.

The Cubs are playing the SECOND PLACE Pirates this weekend, so, let the good times roll........oy.

Beautiful poetry

Seems my girl Robin and her hubby are QUITE the poets. I must share what went on on Facebook last night. Since the Cubs suck so much, we have to find other things to talk about, like Carlos Pena's ass. Mr. Pena has been the object of our obsession pretty much all summer, you know, because he's hot. So, my friend Robin wrote a poem about it:

Carlos Pena is a hottie.
He makes us girls feel naughty.
I like to cyber-stalk you,
sometimes the pitchers walk you.
One time KD took a pic of your rear
And then we bought a $10 beer.
So, yeah, you're smokin
And I'm not jokin
That's all I have to say
so, have a great day.

Not to be outdone, Robin's husband came up with a poem of his own:

I don't watch the sport you play,
I'd rather watch paint dry all day.
So, all I know of your team
is that your ass is Kerri's dream.
Rob thinks that you are smokin hot
even though your team is not.
The Cubs suck, but that's ok,
'cause my girls still win when you play

Today's Carlos Pena Pic Of The Day

That's one fine Dominican ass.

New feature: The Carlos Pena Pic of the Day. You're welcome, ladies.

Dear Prince Fielder Part Deux

I just read on ESPN.com that you've made your selections for the home run derby. And while I'm not surprised you picked one of your own teammates, I AM bitterly disappointed that you didn't pick the reigning Mr. Sexy Ass 2011, Carlos Pena. But....you've slightly redeemed yourself by selecting Matt Kemp. He's pretty yummy too.

I will still be watching all of the All-Star Game festivities and making snarky comments about, well, just about everyone.

Sincerely,

KD

Dear Prince Fielder,

As the 2011 NL Home Run Derby captain (and future Cubs first baseman), I trust that you will make wise decisions. That is why I am not above begging and pleading for you to pick Carlos Pena to be on the NL derby team. I know non-All Stars are eligible and, Prince, if you're smart, you will pick the man whose job you are going to take next season. It's only fair.

I LOVE the All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby. I will die if Carlos Pena is involved. Die I tell you.

If you do this I promise to TRY to stop making jokes about how fat you are.

Sincerely,

KD

Congrats to Starlin Castro-the Cubs lone All-Star for 2011

There's not much good Cubs news to report nowadays, but I did want to take the time to congratulate Cubs shortstop extraordinaire, Starlin Castro as he has been selected to be on the 2011 All-Star Game roster for the NL. In just his 2nd year in the bigs, and at only age 21, this is a pretty big accomplishment. Then again, us Cubs fans know he's something special and, in an otherwise dismal season (again), he is a bright spot for this God-awful team. He truly has the potential to be one of the greats. Hell, even Ernie Banks said he's better than he was (that remains to be seen). I will be very excited to watch the All-Star Game next week and see our lil Darlin Starlin!

Great pic

I love it when my Cubbies are smily and happy!
